Hey Folks, I was lurking and figgered I'd register and join the fray! here's some quick info on me.
Been playing Classic Rock,Blues, Punk as well as a year long stint in a 30 piece swing band. altogether, roughly 25 years of playing. In the past year and a half, my job has made it impossible to continue with my rock band, Hadda quit, but the upshot of this is I can take my guitar to work, but because of my isolation, my style is evolving towards more self-sufficient styles of playing.
I've got very good gear, which I'll list at the end, but I've been practicing
slide on a 1966 Harmony Archtop, with a P-90 which I installed. In addition to slide I'm also getting into ragtime fingerpicking, Rev Gary Davis being the main inspiration, whom I discovered thru Jorma Kaukonen and Hot Tuna.
I think maybe I need to focus on one style at a time, but I love' em both.
I've always been a big blues fan, and of course, I cut my teeth on the Big Three from Britain, Page, Beck and Clapton. but These "oddball" styles really do something for me. I've really gotten into Son House, Furry Lewis and Bukka White! Ya know, I'm 40 years old , been playing quite awhile, Is this a mid-life crisis or am I just stupid and all this great music managed to get under my radar all these years?
Hope to make some friends here, also hope to learn things as well.
In the spirit of openess, I offer a confession of sorts. Although I know Stevie Ray Vaughn was a very talented player, and I enjoyed a lot of his music, I don't worship him, like all the players in my town do, I have never wanted to play or sound like him, and I think he really made a career out of impersonating Johnny Winter. There,... I said it and I meant it! ....Here's my Gear in no real order-
