I have played a Mexican Strat, (underlay underlay,aye curamba!), and they are very good.
Lots of things are made in Mexico because of the cheaper labour costs, (like Shure microphones), and the componants are usually as good as a USA Strat.
Mexicans have better P/ups than Chinese, and are a better guitar all round, but you only get what you pay for.
If you can afford the MIM strat, it would be the best choice,IMO.
Try to find a light weight one, the heavy ones don't sound as good.
Also, sight down the neck and make sure its straight.
And, ask for a discount! Start at 20%, and if they don't go for that, try 10%.
(Tell them you cant afford the full price, but you want that guitar real bad).
I'd rather a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
