I'm with Kirk- I like almost anything if its played well with feeling.
My slide teacher got me started on lap steel after I was fairly proficient on slide blues. that let to the C6 tuning which led to western swing kind of sounds. I just picked up the Cindy Cashdollar instructional DVD with variations on Dobro for swing and minor. Shes working in G6 tuning, and open G for the Django kind of stuff. I just started with those lessons but my intention is to apply it to bottleneck rather than lap Dobro and its very, very cool.
