Strange, I'm at school right now, and it works fine for the Firefox at the labs there. In response for your question Clancy, I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I think I may try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox at home to see what's up with it. I probably have something configured incorrectly. I'll post another message later tonight after I reinstall it. =)

wow thats amazing f4l. That was what it looked like for me,only it was the embedded links and pics that were blank. It only took one unchecked box in web features to fix my problem. I wish I could think of a simple fix like that for you.

Clancy,
Seems like my browser is hopeless!! I just upgraded to the newest version of firefox 1.5, and it's still like before, there's a place holder for the video, but nothing actually there. For instance, if I right click in that area, I get no sub menu whatsoever.
In response to your two questions, I'm using Windows XP Home,
and I believe this site has an embbeded video and it does load for me.

It seems like everything is going okay for everybody else here, I just can't get it to work! Is there something I should check/uncheck in my Firefox options that would relate to this problem?

Feeman,
Hmm, how strange. That's just a straight embed tag on the site that works for you. Maybe the param tag is messing things up... let me have a think about it, something might come to me.
Haven't even tried it on Firefox 1.5 version (I think that's still in beta isn't it?).
I'll get back to you.
Glad it's working for you now Mike... I can now strike you off my list of troublemakers

works for me running 1.0.4 or 1.0.7. There has to be something checked or not checked somewhere in firefox. You never did mention if you got it to work using IE View extention. If that doen't do it then I would think it points to some problem other than embedded media since most forums are geared for IE.

Oh I just got that, but that only launches it in Internet Explorer though. Allthumbs, do you know if there are some settings I should check/uncheck in the options? I think there may be something that's not configured correctly.

Hi freeman,
To elaborate on your reinstalling of firefox, you should be aware that even though you reinstalled it again your preferences and settings might be left over from your previous installation.
My suggestion would be to first check that you have allowed the following plugins. Therefore go to:
Tools --> options
and then from the vertical tab (General, Privacy... etc.) click on "Downloads". The bottom right hand corner will then show a "Plug-Ins" button click on that. Once you have done that make sure all the correct plugins are ticked. Generally you will see a window with (ASX, WAX, WM, WMA, WMV, WVX) in there. Another way to check is to type "about:plugins" in the address bar. You should locate the "Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library" heading down the page and assure that the above file suffixes are in there. Also make sure that "application/x-mplayer2" is there as well, as firefox generally uses this to play the wmv files.
If anything of the above is not in order please post back and I will tell you what to do next.
If that is all in order you might need to check that the codecs you have are the latest. I doubt this is an issue (as the player would at least load up) but if you can download one of the lessons and play them in Windows Media Player then this is not a problem.

IE view is just an emulator. Your not really in IE. Just close it after you have looked at the lesson you want by clicking the close box at the top right corner or going to options in your extentions box and deselecting the link. The point I was trying to make is,does IE view work for the vids, if so ,it is definitely firefox that is causing your problems.Follow toxicitys' advice. It must be a setting somewhere.

Did you follow the link I posted to the firefox help forum? I had a problem with ff today, posted the problem and had the solution in under 5 minutes. They are the ultimate experts with this stuff after all.

Ok, feeman, I actually think maybe allthumbs and you are using slightly different extensions, but I could be wrong.
Anyway. I'm not totally convinced the problem is on your end actually. If you ever happen on another site with embedded wmv that works just quickly post it here for me if you could and I'll have a look at the code for that. The other one you gave me wasn't the best example.
Cheers
Clancy

More info for you Clancy. I can't play Jims' video with ff. The player comes up and the music plays, but the screen stays black. Works with IE view so it is in the forum software some where.
