Maybe some programing genius can write a program that syncs with GuitarPro that automatically displays the dots on the fretboard so that there's no extra work involved.
Do we have any members with that talent?

I love your site and your lessons are superb! Easy to follow, but for some reason, those dots are confusing me and I have to look at the tab anyways to figure out the lesson. If it takes a lot of your time to create that section, then, I wouldn't do it. It'll give you more time to give us another song! Thanks so much for what you do for us.

the visual aid will not appeal to everyone and there are different methods/styles of learning that appeal to individuals.i like it because it gives me an extra reference point should i need it. thumbs up for me! merry xmas to all.

Thanks Kirk, another great lesson! It is a little harder than silent night but not much. The dots dont help much, I dont think they are worth 2 hours of your time. I bought myself an Ibanez electric acoustic for Christmas after some lowering of the bridge and such Auld lang is sounding pretty good. Again thanks Elglide

  It depends...

Instead of saying "it seems like too much work" I'd like to ask how much work iis it really?
If it isn't too much bother (just an few extra minutes a lesson) then I say yeah, go with it. Just give us the option to turn it off, and everyones happy. If it takes more than an hour per lesson, I say definetely not. Quite plainly, your lessons teach the songs incredibly well already, and I doubt many people will use this new feature. Its nice, but unnecessary.

In the end, it doesn't matter too much, your lessons will be great either way.

Keep up the good work.

Greetings,
I really don't see where the fingerboard gives you any more info than the tab does. Save the time and energy for more of these fine lessons.

Hi Kirk
Firstly, the Auld Lang Syne lesson is fantastic, I sat down at the computer last night specificly to find ALS tabs, came here first to check in and there it was. Fantastic

Re the fretboard dots, Like everyone else has said, it is all there in the Guitar Pro file. I use the video to study your hand movements and the dots are more of a distraction than a help.

Strangely, the vote seems to be opposite to most of the comments

Thanks for all of your efforts and assistance

Cheers

Peter

  I Like it!!!

I found the dots helpful, and not at all distracting. I find having all the 'views' on one screen very useful....... and I'll take all the help I can get...lol.

BUT, (the inevitable but), given a choice beteen your time spent on more lessons and the dots, I would have to go with more lessons.

Whichever way you go, keep up the good work!.

Merry Xmas.

Sorry for this outburst of rage...
I didn't think Kirk was asking for negative criticizim... it seems like the "yes" had more votes though. Sorry for my outrage too....

It's ok but I agree with a few others, I can get as much or more from watching the left hand and looking at the tab. Just my opinion.

THanks!

Kirk was asking for our opinions on the new idea. As he did not specify one way or the other, it is to his credit that was looking for honest feedback, one way or the other. The voting idea shows he wants us all to weigh in on the issue. You cannot get honest opinions on an issue if you begin by rejecting opinions you don't share. You may rest assured that Kirk isn't taking namiguShin's opinion personally. Opinions must be heartfelt to be honest, and that's all any honest person can expect of another honest person...the unadulterated truth. There is no "good" truth and no "bad"; there is only "the truth". It's great to live in America where we can do that, eh?

Member namiguShin was using sarcasm to express a point. There's nothing wrong with the sarcasm used, as it was not directed to Kirk, nor to any specific member. I thought namiguShin used that little bit of sarcasm to great end: He/She was saying that he/she thinks using the new visual is asking too much of Kirk...taking advantage of his apparently limitless generosity by letting him do even MORE for us than he is already doing. This is a great forum Kirk has opened up on the issue, don't you think?
And look how namiguShin has stirrred up even more interest...I applaud them both!!

Now, let's all go out and buy some new guitars and get really giddy!!

I love the easier versions of the songs.
I would rather you spend your time on more lessons than the insert.
Either way great job. thanks

The dots are cool, but I get the same thing from the tab. Maybe you can find a way
to shave some time off. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Thank you for your comments. Don't let anyone give you any gruff over expressing yourself. We both know that your sarcasm wasn't pointed at Kirk or anyone specific. Some of us need to "get a life" and not take themselves so seriously. I thought you were gallantly trying to get members not to take advantage of Kirk's generousity with a little humor. Well-placed sarcasm is welcomed by those who appreciate what's behind it.

I like the lessons the way they are. For those of you who like the dots, try actiontab.com (Sorry, the system won't let me make the link a live one.). I like that site a lot, but it's not fingerstyle oriented. Maybe a collaboration is in order as they already offer an editing tool to produce such things?
