Friction tape is a linen based tape, usually black, that is entirely soaked in mild adhesive.
Commonly used here (New England, USA) for electrical work, wrapping hockey sticks, wrapping baseball bat handles to make them less slippery (hence the name "friction" tape). It goes by different names in different countries.

You can also use medical bandage tapes, made of cotton or dacron, to build up the slide groove to make it more comfortable.
You might also want to look into the Shubb Pearse SP2 slide or the Shubb GS1 style.
