Well, the holidays are coming up and after playing on my acoustic for close to 8 months, I'm quite anxious to expand my range and learn more. I've been hoping to get an electric and a good amp, but I want to get some advice from everyone here first, seeing as I probably know the least about electrics and amps of anyone here.
Amps:
I've been doing some research and the VOX Valvetronix series has really appealed to me. The
50W or
100W models are versatile, come with a variety of modeling effects built-in, can produce (as I witnessed at my local Guitar Center) an amazing sound when toned down as well as when pushed to the limit, and are quite nice looking as well. I definitely want this amp, but if anyone can do me one better and suggest a different one, please do.
Guitars:
So far, the Schecter and Telecaster have been at the top of my list (but not neccesarily in that order). The Schecter C-1 series is beautiful and I had the chance to play it at a friend's house recently. It sounded great paired with the VOX amp. The Tele is time-tested and almost everyone admits that it's a fantastic guitar- but is it right for me?
Also, while window-shopping for Teles and Shecter C-1s, I've realised that each guitar has a wide variety of models, each different from the next. Fender especially has so many different types of Telecasters that I'm overwhelmed. So far, I've liked the
Fender Custom Telecaster FMT, the
Fender Deluxe Nashville Power Telecaster, and the
Classic Schecter C-1
I'm looking, as with the amp, for a versatile range of sounds. I want to play jazz, classic rock, alternative, punk, and (some) metal and sound great doing it, all one on guitar. I don't understand the inner workings of guitars, or know which variables affect it's sound. I only know what I want, but have no clue what I need.
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions. What combo will allow me to play all of the above in style?
Happy Holidays!
