I like the idea of different forums, and for me, I would be interested in classical and folk. I am not a singer, and I am always looking for music that incorporates the melody into the playing rather than the guitar being only an accompaniment for the voice. For me, the guitar *is* the voice!!

I hate Jazz myself, but think a Classical and or Rock section would be GREAT
Love metal too, but think that would be alot to ask
Classical and Rock for me are a must

I think there should at least these styles:

Rock
Classical
Jazz
Blues
Metal
Folk
Other

These cover pretty much all of the popular styles. I can't think of any other really major styles... maybe flamenco? Bluegrass? Country? Those are smaller groups, I'd say. They could go under other perhaps.

I don't think metal should be placed in the same genre as rock. They're very different styles of music to me.

This is a pretty tough thing to decide on.

Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

Hello Clancy and all the friends here,

The categories seem to be taking shape fairly well. As others have suggested, some smaller genres' may be grouped in with others in different threads and you may find that after a little while some threads are just kind of dead or have very low activity and could be sub-grouped in with others.

some ragtime content, for example would be worthwhile, but that might not generate a huge interest (than again it might) and could be grouped in as a sub-set in jazz or even bluegrass if those were larger categories.

It may be good to get something off the ground and see what happens to it and then tweak it. Even the way this entire site has been developing over time is IMO progressing along great. The look and organization is tops.

thanks

Great idea Clancy. My particular interest is anything acoustic but I also like accomplished electric guitarists.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
