Well Kirk! .. here it is ... It's about time

Hi Kirk

After your last message .... it was just what I needed at that time and I grabbed my guitar again, dug out a backing track and did an improv over it.

Here it is. I called it:"It's about time." with no "bells and whistles"

I jumped into the deep end. I haven't even listened to it myself. Uploading first for "Raw Comments."

Regrads

John

I liked that one a lot more than the others john (the others are good, don't get me wrong there).

I can actually hear the guitar coming out more, beautiful, this song has a feel you would dance too. (or play a sax too)

I really liked that too, very relaxing!

Pesonally, I would like to hear even more of the guitar, maybe less reverb and a little compression - to help those runs sparkle more than they do already

nice work on this John, you got a certain feel to your playing

Thanks OLDG

I forgot I had reverb on the amp that I had never shut off.

Your encouraging comments are greatly appreciated.

Hi, John. I like the sound much better ... I can hear what you're playing now.

You asked for 'raw comments' ... mine would be: There are certainly some nice melodic passages in there, but 'lose the needless pentatonic runs'. As soon as I hear those, I know you've lost the melodic track you were on and you're now just letting muscle memory do the playing for you. I'd rather hear nothing at all than hear those pentatonic runs, personally. The backing track is so beautiful ... let it shine through. There are a couple of neat changes in there too (one at 1:51) that that were blurred out by the pentatonics, which just stopped working at those points.

I know you're just about to receive PlaneTalk ... you'll be reading about the opposite approach to improvising, namely following the changes, not playing scales, consciously, anyway. I think you're going to have a few 'Aha' moments reading it and viewing the DVD.

Raw enough for you?

PS: That's a nice backing track ... is it yours to upload? I wouldn't mind having a play over it myself.

Hi Kirk

Raw is good. Can't learn if it is all smiles.
I can hear and see what you mean regarding me stepping off track when I brought out those pentatonic runs.

And I can see the upstaging I did at 1:51.

This is all good Kirk. From alll angles and with the help of everyone.

I have been anxiously waiting for the DVD and PlaneTalk to arrive. Our Thanksgiving weekend may have thrown off mail delivery. Should be this week.

The backing track has no ID imprinted in it that I can see. I got it off a disk someone gave me of backing tracks. If this sounds okay to you I'll upload it in the Backing Tracks forum.

Thanks again Kirk for being a teacher

Regards
John

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
