I had a lesson tonight!

Sorry to bore any of ye but I had a formal lesson this evening.

I have been debating in my head for while to do this and there was a add in the local paper about first lesson free and all that so I went for it.

I told yer man that I can play CADGED with no bother as well as a bass line or two and played for 10 or 15 mins on my acoustic, I did a Oasis track, Neil Young and a Dylan piece. I told him I was stuck slightly in that my barres are not coming along and I need to put more interest in my strumming of chords.

So what did he do? had me playing scales!

After 10 mins I was like a dog so I told him what is this for? At that moment I had a karate Kid moment and suddenly I had a mentor. He explained very well that its not just the playing of scales but understanding the fret board, he then broke into some very simple theory behind them and before long he switched to barre chords and the theory made sence when I was playing the barre chords (very slowly) and he named a chord and from that small piece of theory I could position my self in the barre and the the minnor of it.

I then added my 10 pence worth and quoted some of the PT teachings that I have learnt and it impressed him, so much so that he is going to check the site out tonight. He will also stop focusing on scales and push me in the areas that I am week on.

The session ended with me playing heart of gold and he showed me how to jazz it up a bit with palm muting the 6,5,4 string and in that 10 mins my Neil Young tune had transformed it self into something that I thought..... WOW that sounds good.

So thats me, I have signed up for more punishment. The guy is cool and knows his stuff by the sounds of things, he played most things I can play but he showed me those little tricks that a tab could not show and I think I have something to work with.

I know there are trainers on here, is this ok? I like him and I did not so much learn too much from him but those small analytical tips on my playing have made a significant improvement.
