Just checked while having a twang ... on the top strings, the treble strings, I use more of and index/middle combo. It's not really a strict thing I adhere to, though ... the phrase I'm playing (because it all comes in little chunks) dictates the exact combination, if you know what I mean. In other words, I'm in control of the picking, not the other way 'round.
