First guitar
SO I'm buying a my first guitar and I decided that it's going to be an electric. I'm gonna be mostly playing myself and sometimes with my friends, but not that much. I'm interested in learning rock songs mostly so I decided electric. My budget is really low, like $150 since my parents won't let me spend that much. I was orginally thinking of buying the Behringer V-Tone Electric Guitar Package from costco since it was cheap, but now I think I'm gonna buy a used one.
Any tips on buying a used one? What flaws should I look for? I will be bringing a friend along but he has only been learning for about 3 months.
Thanks for the help.

There's your final answer. We all have different standards of what we can "live with" - I don't mind solid state amps, but tube amp purists wouldn't be caught dead playing one. Some guitarists would rather cut their fingers off than play a low-end guitar, but the ones I have work fine for me. Et cetera, et cetera. If one of the headphone/plug-in micro amps works for you, fits in your budget and makes it fun for you to play, then it's exactly what you need. You have plenty of years left ahead of you to upgrade and get bigger, better and louder stuff!

Yea, I think I'm gonna use a plug in one for on the go/anywhere in the house. I also found that theres a guitar cable thing that turns the port into a mic plug, so I can plug it into the mic port on my computer, or stereo. Anyone know where I can buy one though. The site I found it only ships in europe i think. thanks for the help so far, been able to select my guitar and the things i need.

I don't know where you live, but if there's a Radio Shack store anywhere near you, they should have it - it's just a 1/4" to 1/8" mono adapter jack....shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
