As a gibson les and epi les owner who plays them each and everyday can tell you that they are good axes.I stand on a stage each and every weekend battling it out with other bands.i use my guitars to pay my bills and i depend on them to pull through and i never ever had a problem with my gibson or epi.I also have a dean and a ibanez and a fender and i still lean to my gibson.Al depends what your wanting to do with it.Electronics is a major part! The best way to do things is try them out.everyone here has a opinion on whats best or whatever but that might not be whats best for you!Do some research, weight, wood, electronics etc etc feel it ,how does it fit in your hand are youi comfortable with it?like i said its what you want and intend to use it for lots of metal guitars out there. Some cheap that are still good axes!with a lil electronic work on it they can become great axes!Ibanez rg series are low end but do the job esp if your broke and wanna play so will a epi les!And also when i started playng we didnt have the net we listened to the sound that the other players was producing and went and found out what they used what settings they set things at!And then went and compared what they used to other products that may be cheaper but will give you same effect. Also what style of axe do ya like are you a flying v fan ,a strat shaped fan,les paul fan?maybe what ya like dosent produce the sound ya want. But it can be made to do that!Dont buy a axe then regret getting it down the road.get the style you like the rest can be adjusted to make you happy!
