Well you can do the total wipe thing Ian.

You could uninstall firefox, quicktime, go into say windows media player and default everything to it. (make sure you have a browser first like I.E. before you delete your firefox), then redownload the install file for ff and quicktime... run ff install first and then quicktime. Keep everything defaulted when it asks you to select options.

My mime settings are as follows and I have had no problem with em

Nothing checked on streaming
On video- just the Quicktime Movie box is clicked
Nothing checked on audio
Mpeg- 3GPP2 is checked, Video is protected is checked, SD video file is checked, and AMC Media file is checked.
Nothing checked on MP3-Mpeg
Images shouldn't really matter, but: MACPaint, Pict, and Quicktime image file are checked.
Nothing checked on miscellaneous.

And on my associations the only things checked are the Quicktime Movie, and the image ones from above... none others.

Im thinking you may have to uninstall quicktime and reload though, maybe something got corrupted or deleted accidentally.
