Only a Hobo - Anyone learned this one?

Okay, so I'm thinking of getting stuck into 'You've Got A Friend' but having listened to another great tune this morning by Kirk (a lesson that I bought) I'm in two minds to learn this one either before or along side YGAF.

Only a Hobo brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. My concern is that it won't sound half as good as it should played on a steel string (and with me playing it). It is a mesmerizing tune but can't tell whether that is a quality brought on only by the nylon strings.

If anyone has tried it on a steel ring, let me know/hear.

If Kirk's reading this - any advice?

Thanks again,
Sleepy.

It was really meant for steel strings, sleepy ... the versions I've heard were all done on steel. I guess I used my nylon because it's such a friendly guitar, but I'll try and do a quick steel string version for you to have a listen to.

I'm also the author of PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. The lesson that this book, slide-rule and DVD teach is the most powerful of all: the 'trick' to seeing the entire fretboard as friendly, familiar territory. If you're beyond the beginner stage -- you know your chords, scales, maybe even modes -- but you're still wondering how to turn it all into music, how to invent and improvise, how to access all the bits and pieces, then this is the book for you. You will also be able to join the private PlaneTalkers' Forum and discuss the simple visualization technique with me and many others. - Read more here .

Testimonials

Kirk, I got your book in the mail today--in a word: FANTASTIC!!!! Kudos to you for such a well-thought-out, illustrated and produced book ... You are a wonderful teacher. Your writing is clear, your method is simply taught and your technique is so easy to understand...Any teacher could learn something about their skill by reading how you tackle such a lengthy, difficult subject in as many pages as you did ... Thank you for all of your correspondence and for sharing your knowledge ("the trick") with other guitarists!
