Funk Vamp - how would the PT guys solo over this?
I am curious to see how the PT guys would approach something like this. It is just a one chord vamp over a drum beat I put together to practice with.
It goes for just over a minute, which can be an very long time when there is nothing going on harmonically, and so all interest has to be generated by the soloist.
Looking foward to hearing some takes and approaches to this

I have just down four hours of mixing this morning for the HSC, so I will let my brain clear a little (sleep) and if I get a chance to put something down before I have to pack for tonight's gig I will do so, otherwise I will try for tonight after the gig or in the morning.

Wow your really jumping. How about uploading a recording of a bit of one of your gigs with your band when you have some free time.

Would love to AT.
I have a few things going on. I do some solo acoustic gigs, I work with Michael that you may have head singing on some of the posts, and I have a jazz band. I also do some fill-in gigs with a few singers when their regular guitarist is away.
Things are turning back around for me with gigs which is good.

It's a busy time for everyone Kirk. We're releasing a couple of new products at work and getting ready for a trade show - I've been coming home so late that I haven't even had time to pick up a guitar before crashing. And I'm just about to leave for Connecticut to visit my elderly parents (95 and 89) so I'll get to it when I can... I also have other things in the queue to play/record....
Have you had a chance to listen to any of my classical music yet? I recommend the Piano Concerto, since it's fairly recently written and very well rendered. If you want to hear something from back when I was young, Essay for Trombone and Orchestra (1974) is a live recording from Colby College with a good friend of mine playing the trombone solo and me conducting the orchestra.

Great take. Nice use of dynamics and your usual killer tone.

Truly nice work Kirk, I leaned more toward the take on the Rez, the feel appealed to me a little more, although the slide was spot on...funny, appears one of the responses has been edited, well.."ditto" .. , I think you catch my drift...Nice job!!!

We just got back from CT, and I'm really tired, but wanted to have a go at this, so for better or worse, here's a quick take over this.

Cool stuff Jim
I have a window of opportunity this morning to set some gear up and record, so hopefully nothing pops up to drag me away.

Hi Jim.
Just curious as to what key you hear this in. You start playing the bar before the 'band' comes in, and because of that I'm not quite sure where your lines are taking me ... were you thinking Em or A7?

Hi Kirk,
I was centered mostly in Em.
I think either an extended A or Em works for this vamp.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
