I used to think this was the case but recently with
Guitar Pro and Powertab I see a huge amount of excellent tabs and at the click of a button you can listen to the whole thing to make sure it sounds right and visually see the tab played for timing.
Interestingly I went to download a Powertab off a website yesterday and they have temporarily disabled all tab downloads until they have clarified their legal position.
