Whoa! !00 watts should be plenty, unless you are playing an arena....with no sound reinforcement! From what I've been taught, the stacks were designed primarily for trying to allow each other to be heard on a large stage. It's surprising how quickly a persons sound dissipates across the stage when mixed with drums, bass, another guitar, etc, etc. So, they went from small amps with one or two 12 inch speakers (or smaller) to the stacks (especially for ROCK!!)

Some of my work years ago, and recent reading, says that in the studio, smaller amps are used in many cases. They're just overdriven to get that sound. Some folks do use the stacks in the studio, but much to the chagrin of the engineers.

If you're gonna be playing clubs that seat 50-100, perhaps even up to 200, that should be plenty. Smaller rooms, you would probably benefit from a smaller amp. Especially if the club owner wants the sound kept down. You can get some really nice distortion out of a 15 watt amp and not blow the doors off the building.

Just my opinion based on some real time experiences (good & bad).

Have Fun and protect your hearing! Once it's gone, it's ........
