Notes on the neck
In my guitar book, I'm working on some finger exercises and something has confused me. Above each note, there is a number indicating which finger to play the note with (like "1" for the forefinger...and I'm positive that's what it means). But let's say I have an open note, they still put a "4" above it meaning for me to use my pinky to play that chord. So I'm just going to assume they want me to play that note somewhere else on the neck that will require me to use my pinky. Well, my book doesn't really go into the details of the different positions of the notes. So like, let's say I have an E note with a 4 above it, where am I supposed to play that note on the neck? Is there any rule of thumb to help me remember the different positions?
