Very very new

I just pulled out our guitar and put some strings on it after wanting to play, one problem is i have no idea! I've looked at the lessons and such here but i don't understand them. I don't know how to actually read the diagrams and such of the guitar fret i think its called.

Any help for a newb in distress?

Hey there!

I just started playing a month back, it helps to start out familiarizing yourself with the strings, and their sounds, don't jump on the chords straight away. Practice continusoly for a few days, then you can switch to a weekly lesson or whatever fits into your schedule, and suddenly your fingers fall into place and things start to make sense.

Well I agree with sdv. Chords, although they will allow you to play the most songs probably the fastest, are a little difficult to start out with. Get some lessons if you can (check craigslist or if you have a recreation center in a town near you, many times you can get them there).

Is it just me, or am I the only one who thinks the whole TAB thing is written upside down?? maybe it's just me.....

Nothing against you Kirk! I just read my last post!

It's just for my first lesson, I couldn't even play the theme from Jaws! (Lessee, that must be on tab, 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 etc etc etc)

Or Dazed and Confused (on E, O on 11, A on 9, A on 8, A on 7, A on 6, EO on 11, A on 5 , A on 4, etc)

Just to get those 2 sounding like something was an accomplishment!

maybe we need a "super noobie" area!

Either way, neuortic, take a look around. There is a LOT of stuff on here! Getting the fingers to fit where they should, well, heck, that takes a LONG time! But it is fun trying to get there!
