Hi Kid,
No expert, but some thing I have noticed with Picks. Very soft Picks are Little more than Useless unless you want a very gentle background which is achieved my merely glosssing the pick over the strings. Any force from your wrist renders this type of Pick Uselesss. There is truth that Like Strings, the thicker the Pick, the richer and more fuller the sound output.
Also this, there is a very subtle yet VERY Destinct variation of output by how you crosss the strings with the pick. If you play with the pick very flat, and by that I mean you are holding your pick so it strikes the string at the broadest point, ironically you produce quite a thin sound. If you just roll your thumb so as to strike the string more with the edge rather than the flat of the pick, you will produce a smoother, warmer more rounded sound.
The trick is to roll your thumb more over your index finger so as to have the leading edge in immediate contact with the strings.
