I too like Jimi Hendrix and Judas Priest. Actually I left some bands/artists that I particularly like off the list as well.

Reason: It's impossible to categorize and list every band that people would vote for. Because SOMEBODY will always be left out. It's inevitable!!

I'm sorry if my poll is not good enough for you.

What a tough question for a lover of music such as myself... for nostalgia's sake, I'm gonna say Pink Floyd, but I worship on the alters of many.

I don't really understand how you could have left out Deep Purple in favor of a few others there though.

Anyways, I love all kinds of music and it goes in periods. Right now it is very much metallica, slipknot, eagles, bach and judas priest.
Though I think I may say that Judas Priest is my #1 band, because they don't go in periods for me, they're always there, same goes for the Eagles. ^^
Led Zeppelin is a lovely band as well, Jimmy Page is my source of inspiration.

I agree Neil, when first sighting this thread thought, sheesh!, there must be 50 or more bands that I can think of, but most of them have a unique style if not genre?
For example The Beatles, when they were around in the 60's, it was also refreshing and a privelege to hear many other brilliant entertainers supplying us with a smorgasboard of various styles.
I could listen to Zepps for a while, but then in another mood would switch to CCR perhaps, or CSNY, Buddy Holly....and then crank up some Eric Burdon & the Animals on another day.
Enjoyed the supergroups of the era such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones etc., but never got bogged down with one of em, never figured it was a competition lol.
But deep down the foundation of their music was of course, The Blues, and thats where I'm looking back to now after all these years, of being spoilt with a huge choice of magnificent talent, and what a blast its been.

There are way too many bands and kinds of music that I like to pick just one. Right now I have taken a turn back to listening to The Beatles a lot; especially earlier stuff. My favaorite new release is The Blasters "4-11-44". But over the years, the one band that continues to intrigue me, influence me and creep into my head a lot of the time and whose music I am trying to learn on guitar is Fleetwood Mac; but only prior to 1974. I lost interest when Buckingham and Nicks joined but still play music prior to that much of the time. Especially in their very early years when they were pretty much a blues band they were untouchable.

Agree Stubbie, I thoroughly enjoy the videos I have of Fleetwood Mac doing Oh Well ('69) and Albatross ('69), awesome guitar teamwork.

Changing tack a bit, I believe a good drummer maketh the band and my alltime favourite drummer would have to be Creams, Ginger Baker. He has the perfect backing for any guitarist.
Reckon Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce were privileged to have the masterful Ginger Baker setting the foundation for their classics in his brilliant, unique style. (just my opinion mind ya)

I was just listening to the Best of Cream CD last night, and I definitely have to back up the comments on Ginger Baker- especially for his playing on "Born Under a Bad Sign".

Personally, my favorite is The Beatles, closely followed by Huey Lewis and the News.

I agree that the music of today sometimes doesn't seem to shine like it used to. I listen to the classic bands like The Kinks, The Who and Hendrix. But at the same time have great admiration towards newer bands such as Nickelback, Oasis and RHCP.

My favourite band of all time have to be 3 Doors Down, I could easily have chosen a much better band but I like to favour them as their style of music fits my taste so well. Kryptonite being one such song.

I wonder if anyone even knows of these guys?

I voted for Led Zep. But I'm pleased a couple of people mentioned Rory Gallagher. He was really underrated
