Hints for a beginner?
Hi there,
I've finally decided that I'm actually going to take up the guitar, instead of just thinking about taking it up! I tried to teach myself once before - using my Dad's classical guitar. I found that it was too big - especially around the neck - for me to play comfortably - I'm quite small, and have small hands.
Now I'm in the situtation where I have no-one who can help me out with buying a guitar - I live in a different country to my family and none of my friends here play the guitar at all. So I'll have to choose my guitar myself (and deal with the language barrier, but that's a whole other fun subject!).
Any hints for choosing a guitar? And not getting ripped off? Am I right in thinking that I can get an acoustic guitar with a smaller neck for my little hands? I've been trying to do some research on the internet, but I've just succeeded in confusing myself even more.
I'm hoping to eventually be able to accompany myself singing (probably ballads/folk type stuff), and I've already got some musical education (violin, viola and singing since I was about 7). Will that change the type of guitar I want?
Thanks - and sorry for the long and rambling first post!
