Reading Sheet Music

I've tried many different things, but nothing seems to work, becuase of one main problem, i think...

I already know how to read sheet music, since i play the trumpet aswell, but i dont know what note is what on the guitar fretboard. I've tried books and websites, and may be starting lessons soon, but i cant seem to grasp it. I think that since most books and other methods start with you learning notes on the first three frets of each string, i am getting confused in that the trumpet, which has three valves, for example, plays an E by pushing down the first two vavles. When i look at the music i think, E=2, when on the guitar, it may be some other note.

Any Advice?
