I love this forum

Just discovered it two days ago. Joined immediately. I love the idea of guitar players helpiing guitar player.

I first started playing about 1969, when in college. I had been playing the banjo for a couple of years but my friends all got tired of the kinds of things we had to play so I bought a guitar so I could join them. It was a steel string Yamaha. Over the years I had played and gone long periods of time without playing. This year I decided I really wanted to get better and began taking lessons.

It has been great. The hard part is I spent so much of that time playing the same three songs over and over so that I mess up some of my new songs because when I play a really familiar chord I automatically play the old chords. Not easy getting old.

I don't really play the Yamaha any more. The neck is warped and a good friend of my who is a very good guitar repair person said it was hopeless. However, I have a Tele, a nylon string Yamaha (actually it is my wife's but siince she doesn't play any more I like to say it's mine; it is really fun to play). Last year I got an Ovation acoustic/electric (Celebrity deluxe CS257). It is a very nice guitar. And then this year I purchased a Regal resonator.

Currently I am lusting for a new amp. I have a very bottom of the line Fender but have been considering the Blues Jr.

My favorite guitar player are Peter Green, Danny Kirwan (at least the old versions of these two), and Sonny Landreth. If you have never been to Sonny's website it is really nice. There is a section there where he explains tunings he uses and provides mp3s. it is www.sonnylandreth.com

I look forward to spending a lot of time at this forum.
