Updating Random Chord Progression Generator

Hi all,

I'm working on a new version of my random chord progression generator... For those who haven't seen the original here it is:
Random Chord Progression Generator

After this last term in my programming classes we got a little more info on GUI designing, so I wanted to redesign the whole thing (something I've wanted to do for a while, but lacked the know how).

Here's what I've got so far, most of the buttons don't do anything except light up, but many of the buttons will function the same as the original. The only real working features right now are the chord and roman numeral display and key selection from the drop down menu. And once most of the functionality is done, I'll change the ugly white/yellow buttons.

Several people had problems getting the original to load, I used an older version of Java (v1.5 instead of v1.6) to create this one so I'm hoping that will solve the problem. If anyone still can't get it to load, please let me know.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for features they'd like to see implemented, I'd love to hear them.

Very fancy Tekker. I had to install the JRE from Sun - the one they offered for download, and it works fine. Nice background image and I found everything works well. Much cooler than before - what a clever clogs!!!

Thanks Carol. I really like the background image too, PRS are sweet guitars aren't they? Buttons are coming next, then it should look a whole lot better without the cheesy white/yellow buttons.

New buttons in the works! I recruited my mom to do the buttons as she's much better at photoshop than I am. There's still some minor tweaking to be done, but here's the idea. I also want to have lighter colors when the buttons are enabled and I'm still trying to figure out how to load a new image while the button is being held down.

Thanks cshude! It's getting closer. All the button designs are done for when the buttons are inactive, there will also be a lighter version of the buttons for when they are active.

I've also started a little bit on the chromatic section. The generate button now works as does the starting chord select drop down list.

I may also add a minor chords option to the chromatic section, not sure yet. I don't know how much use that part is going to get as it'll probably just sound like a bunch of random out of key chords thrown together.... because that's what it will be.
