Blues in Am ... have a go at an overdub!

Here is a backing track that re-surfaced at the PlaneTalk Forum recently. Allthumbs found it and it's a great one to play over. It's in Am, and it's a pretty standard minor blues progression.

The chord progression is:

| Am - - - | Dm - - - | Am - - - | - - - - |
| Dm - - - | - - - - | Am - - - | - - - - |
| Em - - - | FM7 - Dm Em | Am - - - | - - - - |

It's in 4/4 time; the long notes from the bass are the 1's of each bar if you're wondering how to count it out ... if you want to count it out.

The backing track is attached, and below is my steel string acoustic track I played this afternoon. This tune sounds great on electric too, a la BB King, but there are countless ways to play to it. I know a couple of PlaneTalkers have already done some versions (James, Peter ..?) so hopefully they'll post them too.

Don't be shy! Let's hear some and maybe we can kick off a whole overdubbing 'add-a-track' thing here. This is obviously not for beginners who bought their first guitar last week, but even if you just dabble in improvisation or building solos more methodically, this is a great way to get feedback and make progress.

Thanks again Garry, nice of you to say so. Just listened to your take again, you've sure got the feel for the blues.

This is so-ooooo good! aarona36, nocat, modalthinking, strtbstr & Garry ... hope I didn't miss anybody, all great tracks. It is really helpful to be able to hear so many different interpretations of a track. Everybody gives it a little unique something. What a fun way to learn and develop style !!

John, no hard feelings but ya missed the most important name out of the bunch...That would be Kirk..the man who made all this possible. We'll let ya slide....just this once though Welcome and enjoy!

John, you posted a great take yourself over at the PT forum, as did a few other of our regulars. I'm sure there's plenty of people here would love to hear them too.

Sorry Garry and si16, my fault. Wasn't thinking and forgot that my newfound 'fame' had not yet spread to this forum.

This was actually my first go, Garry, posted recently on the PT forum. The guys there have all been very kind .... hint! hint! I think they were really all just sympathetic 'cos I wound up following Kirk's, as always, brilliant take .....

There' a few prize clams in my much more humble effort but it was an 'instant' take, something I could not have even dreamed of doing before starting PT last year. I'm a big fan of Kirk's music and of course, PT too. Thanks for the 'call' both ..

John.

John, ah man..sorry you took it that way.I by no means was trying to be a wise-guy about it. Ya read me wrong, see the Smiley .
John ..really man..I'm the last guy to knock anyone. It just struck me odd that I didn't see Kirk's name there too. Plain and simple.
Humble?..dude, I was so happy Canuck-Todd got the damn Audacity program figured out for me. This is also my first shot at this.
I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers and I had a feeling it was gonna get taken the wrong way after I read it. My apologies John, really>

Thanks for that John. Instant take or not, it's really good. Nothing wrong with following Kirk's version which was outstanding. As was another take, praised for its 'legato' style, over at the PT forum. So far its author is being coy, but hopefully he'll honour us by posting it here soon. It really is fantastic.

Garry, absolutely no offence taken. I didn't think for one moment that you were having a go at anybody.

'Twas I 'wot felt like a dope when I read my post again, after your reply and realised that most folks in this forum would not know that I was already one of Kirk's band of merry twangers. I should have introduced myself.

OK, I'm late to the game. Life has been full recently.

I had a few minutes to do a take last night.

Slop with distortion!
