Amazing ... I can still remember the song he did with Mary Ford (?) that must have been his signature song " somewhere there's music etc how high the moon" and I
think that was the first time I ever heard mult-track recording. Was that in the 50's?
Maybe it's true ... we just get better with age!
I was at a convention in Las Vegas a few years ago and they drove us out to some restaurant in the outskirts where we were entertained by a group called the "Old Geezers" ... they were a riot and pretty damn good. ...now if I can just get my fingers
around a Bb I'll be hot on Clapton's tail.

That's right, Mary Ford was his wife. How high the moon was the song, and I think it was the fifties.
He multi-tracked the guitar and his wife.
Fancy multi-tracking your wife..........as if one wife isn't enough.
He was having problems with speed fluctuations with his recorder, so he made his own rig in his garage, using a Buick (I think it was) flywheel. Amazing.

too funny and very interesting. I'd never really thought of multi-tracking my wife ... I wonder how you do that...!
You must be a night owl ... isn't it your bedtime over there?
all the best,

I saw the Les Paul "Trio" a couple of years back in Manhattan, near Lincoln Center. I think the place was called "Fat Tuesdays". He is likely in the place mentioned above now, as I think Fat Tuesdays is gone.
Anyway, the show was great. He has a drummer, bass and a kid on guitar who is technically perfect.
But he's not as good as Les.
You gotta have soul. Whatever "it" is, Les has still got it.

I've lost the thread but some one in New Jersey said he played regularly (once a week or month) at a club near them. Maybe you can see that post. Les Paul is like Bob Hope ... gonna play till he drops. I wonder what ever happened to Mary Ford. Les would be a tough act to follow!

hmmm,
This is an interesting demographic. Not at all what I expected. Better than half, who have voted, are over 40. If this is a true indicator, then I have some questions.
1) Are these 40+ folks just beginning guitar or do they have some experience and wish to further educate themselves?
2) Are these 40+ folks fulfilling a life long dream to learn the guitar?
3) Are these 40+ folks just looking for a hobby?
****
I'm sure I could come up with more but these just struck me at the moment.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
