I have a Dean Evo, an Ibanez AG85trd and a Strat. The first two are dual humbuckers. So I play the pick in the middle. On the strat, I tend to favor between the neck pickup & the middle pickup unless I'm trying to intentionally get a bit more bite or treble in the tone.
On the Clapton Strat, those are pretty much set up to spec at the factory in the U.S. I would think the pup height should be pretty much at optimal setting so , personally, I would not mess with that. Shoot for the spacing in between.
BUT!! I think I may have to agree with Slejhammer, something COULD very well be wrong and I can only be sure by playing it. So, you could send it to me for ....testing?
