I checked the www.shure.com site for specs and the 57 does not require phantom power. So we need to look at how you're setting up and connecting to the PC. I saw the diagram ....mic - pre-amp - pc ...

Kush, are you using Windows as your OS? If so what version?

For XP ...
In your Windows .....
Open Control Panel
Select Sounds & Audio

Slide volume control to High
Uncheck Mute
Check - Place Volume Icon in the taskbar

Click the Audio Tab
Make sure your sound device is listed as the default device for Sound Playback and Sound Record.

Select the Voice Tab
Make sure your sound device is listed as the default device for Voice Playback and Voice Record.

Apply/Ok and close the window.

Open the volume control icon in task tray.

Be sure Line-In is not muted. Be sure Volume and Wave sliders are all the way to the top. Make sure the WAVE is not muted!.

IN the Volume Options Window, click Options & Properties. Click the Record radio button and check all boxes. Make sure your Mixer Device lists your sound card device.
