How to Play Slide Guitar in Standard/Dropped-D DVD by Kirk Lorange
If you really want to spice up your playing, slip a slide over your pinkie and add it to your musical vocabulary. There's no need to re-tune your guitar to an open tuning, just stay in standard or lower that bass string down to D. Kirk shows you how in this 70 minute DVD, talking and playing you through the basics, vibrato, muting, playing single note lines, finding all the chord flavors (they're all there!) and mixing it all into one very neat hybrid style of playing guitar. Sorry...I cant help you with that one
My fingers never could get trained to do that
I settled for a Hybrid Pick and 3rd finger style.
Kirk has some fingerstyle lessons on this site somewhere that may help. I think fingerpicking takes a lot of practice accomplish.
For me, it was like I needed TWO brains. One to concentrate on my fretting hand and one to concentrate on my fingerpicking hand............but I cant walk and chew gum, soooo dont go by me

There's always the option of focusing on what your fretting/sliding hand is doing & letting the picking hand do what it likes to make the sounds happen.
Alot of players with 'advanced' picking technique have not learnt it, more so its come about by accident. Thats how my technique has come about, i started playing slide & found it easier without a pick (as i dont rest any fingers behind the slide). As that progressed i started playing fretted without a pick (more out of laziness, didn't like having to grab a pick every time i put down the slide) & went from there.
If you were to analyse my technique you'd probably see some flamenco strums, a bit of walking bass & general thumb/1st finger. Its come about not because i wanted it that way but because it feels right.
My advice would be to just play & if it feels right do it.
good luck
