Hi all,

Mark is my name and im new to this game! Bit of a late starter, being in my 40's.

Anyway, i am looking at purchacing a Maton bg808, as i like the smaller size and was wondering if anyone has had any experiance with the before mentioned beastie?

Good? Bad? Uggly?

G'day, welcome to the forum. Can't say I've heard anything bad about the 808 ... come to think of it I haven't heard anything bad about Maton.
If you're just starting out, you might like to consider having (instead or as well as) a rather cheap guitar that you don't mind leaving on a stand in the house so you can grab it when the mood takes you, or throwing into the back seat of the car to take to music lessons. Sometimes the real good stuff has to be protected from the daily lifestyle dangers, and this can slow you down a bit when you just want to spend five minutes on it. If you know what I mean.

Hi Mark welcome the the forum, doubt you could go wrong with that Maton and though you could certainly buy cheaper guitars you could hang to one of those for many years , all solid wood it will only get better with age unlike ourselves. Certainly for we Aussies Maton do represent good bang for our dollar . I notice that Ian Moss has been playing a small body Maton when I have seen him of late , so if they're good enough for Mossy ..

I have certainly considered cheaper guitars but, the one i have borrowed (an old fender F-35) and am currently learning on is a full size dreadnaught and i find it to large, so i would prefer a smaller size and havent seen anything in the cheaper ranges that fit the bill.

Also i have a preference, if i can, to buy Australian made stuff and help give someone here a job.

I love my Maton EBG808CL, Performer and find it a delight to play. Same size as the one you're looking at but with a Bunya top instead of the Spruce. The BG808 would have a more mellow tone than mine because of the tone woods used and I imagine would also be a great guitar to play.

Well, i learnt somthing about guitars on the weekend.

Over the last couple of weeks i have tryed a number of guitars of different styles and brands and as the thread said i had pretty much decided on a Maton BG808.

I went into the local shop on the weekend to purchace a Maton, had a bit of a play on it, then picked up a Cole Clark FL1 for comparison, i had already tryed other Cole Clarks... any way the FL1 didnt make it back to the rack.

Guess i found the guitar that "floats my boat"

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum, those Cole Clarks look like sweet guitars can see why you fell in love with it, that's a good way to start trying a few out, lifes a lot easier when you have a guitar you're really comfortable with, nice one

Congrats on your new guitar. I think you made the better choice. Those Maton's are designed more as a acoustic electric sound. Nice amplified , however a little toneless acoustic wise.
