Thanks Chris, great feeling when people notice, sometimes it's hard to see "it" or "if" for yourself....and after these fine presentations above, I see I better get to cracking more seriously than I have been.

I read your post Kenny and just wanted to let you know that the name of the forum is Guitar For Beginners and Beyond. Well, I hit beyond at least 20 years ago. I've been playing for a very long time. So what I'm trying to say is that practicing is always the best way to improve and to impart something I learned the hard way in looking back, practice smart. That is, spend your practice time doing different things. Spend some time on scales, learning chords and chord progressions, some theory, ear training exercises, picking exercises, reading exercises, and then just jamming and having fun with what you learned. Then try to vary the routine so that it does not get boring. With a wealth of info available on the internet, it is so much easier nowdays for musicians to improve there abilities just by getting online. I took lessons for 3 years when I first started and have been self taught ever since. I spent way too much time just jamming instead of practicing smart. If I had practiced what I'm preaching, I would be much, much better than I am now. Be prepared for a lifetime of learning with your instrument and try not to guage yourself against others,( who quite possibly have been playing alot longer than yourself), but against yourself and how much your improving from month to month or year to year. Just presenting your talent here for others to listen to and critique is something that will further your abilities as well. Keep practicing and practice smart.

Thanks JS, Appreciate your taking the time and for your thoughts. I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to disciplined practice of any sort. I'm the type that wanders off in 15 different directions at a time without actually having a plan. I know I should heed your advice, which is easier said than done. I'm a late in life starter of guitar with not much patience, and the groupie's of my age bracket don't add much fuel to my fire{LOL}. As long as I keep it fun, and keep your tips in mind, I do believe I'll keep enjoying the journey. As the saying goes..... Hindsight is always 20/20...Thanks again for the reminder!

rutiugsj,
Wonderful presentation of progress to becoming a better player.
Being part of the over the hill gang in life but not in heart, I too limited my learning by continuously trying to replicate in some way the tunes I would hear on the media. Playing by ear and hoping for the best it was not until I found this site two years ago that I found the foundation to learning guitar in the lessons presented here by Kirk.
I think many of us want to pull off that next tune without really understanding what is going on in the making of the tune.
I promised myself that I would try to go through each lesson until I could play it right. Only this time I have the teacher who has taken the time to explain what is happening within the layout of each lesson. Oh I still can't wait to get to the next tune but hopefully in each take, something from each lesson I learn here will help add a little more flavor to the production.
Each time seasoned players like yourself and others present a BT or a tune here there is another new lesson to learn from.
It is super that others can join in and add their own bit of enthusiasm as seen here on this thread.
It is not the contest but the collaboration of others that sparks the fire to learn more. Similar to the enjoyment of playing when friends get together listening to each others take on the tune but unfortunately happens very little in real life for many of us.
From beginner to advance we learn a line or two in each others presentation.
What a great place to be and meeting people like many of you.

Here's mine ... I must say, I'd have preferred it with the feel at the start going throughout. That walking bass started really grating on me after a while, there isn't much space in there, but anyway ... I had fun. The horrible nasally tone is because I went through my RP100. I should have fiddled a bit more.
In dropped D, capo third fret ...

Superb Kirk. Very tasteful slide picking technique. I can relate to what you said about the bassline. That being said, I could still feel the emotion in your playing which is always a sign of a great player. I also had a chance to check out one of your lessons and must say I appreciate the adage about the old dog and new tricks being proved wrong once again. Thank you Sir.

Kirk, I think it's great that you took the time to listen to all our efforts, but then to actually post your take on it shows what this site means to you. Well done, and thanks for the difference you've made to all of our playing, including mine, though that may not be obvious!
Hats off and a big manly handshake.

I was about to post mine but...........Not now, all of you have great takes on this BT so a big hand clap, mine would lower the standard.
I will leave mine be, its a tough BT. I love it very funky but I struggled to get the vibe. I am kind of stuck in a rock/blues place at the moment and struggling to get out of it. Mind you its not a bad thing.

Awesome take Kirk, and great job of sitting it in the mix, blended very well with the "band" yet stood out perfectly

Ok here is mine
I could only manage 1:35 so its copied twice
I love the vibe and the bass is a great piece of work. Any chance of this in "A", would love to jam with it in familiar territory and add some vocals.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
