Welcome to the forum.
For someone new, a whammy bar is an extra which you will need later but not now.
Each time you change the strings on your Squier, you'll notice the moveable bridge change its position. My suggestion is to get someone to screw it or block it down hard so it doesn't move. Your tuning will then be much easier. Later when you have developed more knowledge you'll need it to be off the body, and you'll probably be able to adjust it yourself by then.
In the meantime your guitar will be able to teach you notes, chords, scales and licks as well as fingering and strumming techniques, so there's plenty to do without the whammy bar.
