A jangle band working tune -

Hey guys,

Be awfully busy. Thought I'd post this to get your thoughts on it. it's a number we're working on ...

http://chapmanjones.com/mp3/test-05-11-08.mp3

Test -05-11-08
******************************
Standard Tuning - 160BPM ... E/A & D/Em/C/
*********************************
[V1]
The world is ripping apart at the seams
No one wants to get along
Everybody writes their own agenda
No one wants to belong

[V2]
My voice is louder than yours
My bomb is bigger too
If you say something I don't like
Well, I'll eradicate you

[Chorus]
Zero Hour
Zero Hour
The clock is ticking
Zero Hour

[V3]
There is no peace on earth anymore
Brotherly love has died
Do unto to others is a broken rule
Thrown away and cast aside

[V4]
The only truth is telling a lie
Politicians taught us well
The faith we had is long gone
Ain't no tellin' where it fell

Wow, this is different Les! I thought it had an AC/DC feel to it. Was that you burning up the airwaves on lead guitar? I liked lots of things about it - eg the driving rhythm, the tick tock, and that cut ending when everything suddenly dies and only the echo of sound is left in your ears. Great! Apart from the guitar (blistering) the vocals were delivered with power and conviction -well done.

Overall, I thought the whole sound was deeper/rounder/fatter, but that might only be because I was listening with earphones, or have you changed your basic recording technique/setup?

Great job

Excellent LC, this has attitude, loved that guitar, that really set up the song and the ending was cool, good sentiment in the song, a nod to the selfish society that is unfortunately too common place these days, nice work

Thanks folks for having a listen!

Couple of thoughts ....

The biggest one thing to overcome in this business of making music and home recording is "self confidence". Even though I question mine continually. Aside from my passion of "simple is better", especially in the lyrical department, the complexities of trying to learn "how" to record and get good recordings is nothing less than intimidating to the uninitiated.

...( so I say to all of you guys & gals out there who are hesitant about creating your music, get off yer duffs and make some tunes. When you do, one of two things will happen. 1) Someone won't like it. 2) Someone *will* like it. Look at the numbers. Each person that hears your music gives you a 50/50 chance of them liking your tune. Here's the rest of the numbers: as of Friday, May 9th, there were 6,666,666,666 people in the world, as in billions. Someone *will* like your music. And that's who you concentrate on! As I've always said, learn who your audience is!

I think another thing that holds folks back from recording good *sounding* music at home, is learning the capabilities of the equipment. (Notice I didn't say good music .... I said good *sound*) No matter how low end or expensive the equipment is, learn how to use the equipment at hand. It's not enough to turn it on or plug it in. I don't know but I'd say most everyone doesn't use the full capabilities of the equipment they have. It's not that they don't want to. It's because it's extremely time consuming to learn *and* remember. Combine that with a shaky self-confidence and there you go!

So in this tune, yes, I'm playing the pseudo-lead guitar as well as the bass. But my mates are working on their tracks for this tune. No telling what it will sound like a week from now! But I'm doing the mix down and mastering on this one.

A far as technique, it's me learning to use my ears better along with using my equipment better.

Thanks again for listening and letting me ramble on!

LC
