I'd skip the music written for children and try and get them into a variety of styles if they're interested. Acts like the Beatles, Bob Marley, etc. have pretty universal appeal, and it will give them a huge sense of accomplishment to play things that everyone who hears them play will recognize.
Caution, though--don't force them into it! If they want to just practice alone for a while, let them be--the worst thing that could happen would be for them to give up playing because they feel pressured etc. Good luck!
