Runaway Girl

This is an experiment that was born in the Songwriting forum. It's my first effort at multi-tracking, and it was a steep learning curve. You can hear some of the edits and word flubs/slurs, but it was surprisingly difficult to get all the words out and keep in time. I believe there is a 5 beat bar as well! The phony American accent will make you laugh, but it helped me get into the style...you'll hear what I mean The last line wasn't a serious ending originally, and then I got to like it, and left it in anyway.....

Now that I think of it, it acually kinda reminds me of the song Life on Mars by David Bowie.

hi Carol,
this is a really nice work it sounds to me like a lot of energy and conviction has gone into it. the mood and feel equal to what is really a heavy subject matter.

'now to play the provocateur '
I have to say that to me this is not rap so much as spoken word, sonic tapestry, something that is rally nice and sits in it's own right.
If its rap its rap in the realm of Gill Scott Heron or perhaps lost poets etc.

I wonder if you've heard Aural text, on RRR, listing to this it might be something you'd enjoy, it streams live 12pm Wednesday's on
Triple R FM

I understand the use of the accent, I have a theory that its sort of the default singing accent, it is arguably the dominant western culture, and brings with it a familiarity to the performer and the listener.
I would love to hear this or or maybe the next to come in your native voice(embrace the OKKER), it's the one with all the nuance and echo of your experiences.
Any way I really dug it, keep creating
cheers

Thanks everyone. It seems ages since I did this - I've been dealing with a new PC, setting up all my software etc etc and doing no practice or recording at all. Soon I'll be back into creating again, hopefully.

Jess: thanks for the comparison - flattery will get you everything (as they say )

Lots of you are struggling to find where this fits in the music scene.....ha ha! It's just me doing something new (for me, anyway). I would actually call it Hip Hop if I had to call it anything, but I don't know much about that type of music.

Kidhaiti, thanks for your comments ('sonic tapestry???' - steady on mate ) I haven't heard of Gill Scott Heron so I'll check that out. I'll check out the RRR show too. I recently found Sound Quality that goes to air late on Fridays on ABC's Radio National that has some music/mixes you might find interesting.

Thanks again everyone
