That's a tough one. I have quite a collection of guitar lesson dvd's and i've probably gotten something from each one of them. I have the most fun with the "learn to play" type, but alot of it was over my head for a long time (some still is). Fender has a beginner rock guitar one that isn't to bad. But the ones i get the most mileage out of are these

Total scales techniques and applications (Mark Sternal)
Esteban 5 dvd series
"Learn to play" Pink Floyd (Jamie Humphries)
"Learn to play" Dark side of the Moon (Danny Lapointe)

These are just my tastes however and it was alot more fun for me to learn doing music I enjoy. It also forced me to get into things I hadn't considered. When I would run into a brick wall trying to do something it would direct me to specific techniques and narrow my dvd choices. I don't really feel like I need guitar lessons to much anymore like I did in the beginning, but one thing I do need is music lessons. I'm to the point now where I can hear something and find it on the fret board right away, but more often times then not I can't tell you what it is i just played. Main thing is stay with it, it still amazes me the things that I tried to do for weeks and weeks and then one day you just pick up the guitar and are doing it wondering what took so long. good luck, playing the guitar is one of the most enjoyable pastimes I've ever undertaken.

edit: Something else to consider if your just starting. With acoustic it really isn't an issue, but with electric don't waste your time on tone. I lost a good month fiddling with my amp until I figured out what good is it if I can't play a lick? I hit the clean button, put all the tone controls at 12 o'clock and left them that way for a year. In the end you'll be glad you did.
