Knox guitar

Anyone seen one of these before? I've been able to find out zilch about it. It's not in playing condition, so I can't tell you how it sounds or plays...and besides, I'm AFRAID of plugging it in.

It belongs to my guy, and he calls it a "wall hanger". The brand name is Knox...never heard of it.

Cool looking, though.

He GeetarGal, Tough one but I've tracked it down, Knox was one of the the trade names of the Kay Musical instrument Company which shut up shop in the late Sixties, the Kay company was split up and the Knox brand name along with Kent were sold as part of a package to the Japanese who carried on using the names after 1968, if your guitar is pre 68/69 it's made by Kay in the US, if it's post 68/69 it's a Japanese guitar made for the low budget market. Are there any other marks on it like a serial number?
Here's a Wikipedia about Kay.

Kay Musical Instrument Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kay guitar company grew out of the previous company and carried on but those brand names Kent and Knox became Japanese brands.
This link's useful if you like a bit of history.

Hope this helps

Thanks, starsailor! I'll look at it when I'm back at his house this evening.

Thanks for the links, too!

Pleasure GeetarGal, How longs your Guy had it, it would be cool if you could ressurect it, I found an old Knox Bass that sold for $100 so this would have some value, if it's restored it would sell for more than the bass depending on it's age, I'd keep it though, a lot of these are probably hanging on walls or in the attic but there aren't many on the market
