Hey Now!
Hey there fellow guitarists. I'm 36/M guitar enthusiast with interests in just about every genre of music besides hip hop. Been playing acoustically for about 12 years. I'm aggressively looking to buy my first electric guitar sometime this year. I've narrowed my search down to a Gibson Les Paul Classic or a Stratocaster. I've always had my heart set on an LP, but I have a Strat on loan from a friend right now and I'm really enjoying playing it...the neck is so fast and it's just easy to play. But, I'm a big hard rock/metal fan and I've always dug the LP tone. So, here I sit, frantically scouring the internet for more info that may make me lean one way or the other.

Hi Hal, it probably comes down to you going into the guitar store and falling in ^^ with the one you like the best. Best of luck in finding that gem.
I probably never listen to how other songwriters write their songs, I just write on using my own imagination. windsong

Well with that kind of GAS Hal, it is best resolved by buying one of each! It's been done before with great results (Always been my dream at least, but some can aford it. Why stress yourself out!).
Welcome to the forum.

Tough choice. Both have a distinct tonal flavour.

Hi Hal,
I have an Epiphone LP that I love. It has a nice edgy tone especially when the amp is cranked. I will buy more though and my next target is most likely going to be a US Fender Strat. Have to convince the wife first.
Good luck with the choice and Welcome.

pleasing dilemma
First of all this is my inaugural (I wasn't going to say maiden) post here, so Hallo from down under(Far North CoastNSW).
Now my soon to be electric friend, your choice is simple, an asat blues boy does it all, single coil and humbucker, chambered if you like, top quality and reasonably priced, usa of course. Or maybe spend some real bucks and go PRS, mmmmmm.
Personally I play a Gibson cs-336 flame top tobacco burst, which is a bona fide dream guitar and delivers all your tone wishes.
Put it this way, as long as you buy quality you really cant lose, so spend a dollar, your ears and hands and eyes deserve it.
As for amplification, well its another punishing decision. Big rig? Loaded Combo? Pre/Pow amp rack attack? Class A Cream machine? (recommended).
If you can play it is a crime not to do it right.
Happy sine waves!!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
