If you are a beginner go for electric guitar lessons that teach you all the steps to play the guitar easily.

Becoming a great guitarist has less to do with fancy moves than it does becoming a master of the basics and learning musicianship.
It's not what you can't do. It's how you play what you already know.

Thanks D. working with a metronome can do wonders for timing{start at a slow tempo and work up the speed as you progress}, and maybe find a few backing tracks to some familiar tunes{to play along with} will help with the strumming...just takes some practice..enjoy yourself, it will come.

Thanks Slick!

Metronome was a tricky thing for me to get used to, but it improved my playing so much. I'm pretty good with just tapping my foot now too, but still break out the metronome if i'm trying to learn things that move around a lot with the notes, triplets, quarter notes, coming in on the off beat etc...

As far as strumming technique goes though, invaluable.

Hey Slick I try to play most songs from memory , i have to get set up to play with the song , i've been told it's alot easier to pick up the strumming and timing if you play with the song, still trying to set up a playing space of my own. Thanks for the tip.

I have to pick up a metronome and try it , but i can play most song ,but with the same beat all the way thru where i really struggle is when the beat and length of notes change . Tried to play with others but they can't really explain how they play and most will play most songs with the same beat, really trying to change it up. Thanks for the tip will pick one up and practice.
