Hi akuleana.
Welcome to the forum, it would be good for you if you could share what you've learned even if it's just with Family and Friends, they will know that you're still learning so won't be too hard on you, nerves and shyness affect quite a few of us here, the bottom line is a fear of failure and embarrasment but we need to face these Demons to progress, when I first played for my Wife I was nervous but I just said bear with me it won't be perfect, that was a small step but it's helped me with my playing and I always try out new tunes with her to get feedback, if we play on our own we always have a biased and sometimes negative opinion of our abilities it's better to get feedback from someone it usually turns out we're better than we think we are, and if we're not we can work on it and ask for feedback on our progress, lifes too short to live in the shadows of fear, and we only have one crack at it.
On a lighter note when I first started playing I played in front of my Dog, every time I started playing she got up and walked off.
Two years down the line now and when I start playing she stays put, hopefully this means I've improved, then again she's getting a bit old so maybe she's just gone deaf

You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.
