I am not too sure what all of your questions are, but I will clarify one thing: When you are looking at tab, the bottom line of the tab represents the 6th string (lowest pitched string, closer to your chest, not to your leg). I was also confused about this a bit at first. Seemed to me that they would set up the tab like the guitar. But looking at it from a musical standpoint, the lower note (by pitch) would be on the lower part of the tab, as it is on the musical staff.

By the way, if I were just starting back off and trying to relearn everything, I would avoid all those bar chords for a while.Good luck and enjoy.
