Song on the Wind

Ok, a bit of a test here, but I wanted to offer it to the community, as a chance to help me grow. Some background:

Was on the Audio chat with Windsong tonight and he said he only knew a few chords, so I was toying around with a D,C,G progression (don't let him fool ya, he can blaze on that Tele! ).

So later I was chatting with EddieZ, and we were discussion the noise coming from the monitor into the guitar... and wondering if it gets caught in the recording. So I needed something I could record and post here.

Also, since we're posting... there seems to be some sort of limit on the audacity for the click track... so short songs are all I can write until ya'll help me extend the click tracks.

So with three birds to kill, allow me to toss a song on the wind.

Feel free to expand upon it as it is now community property.

I would love to, just getting back from the weekend and getting settled out. I will revist this afternoon and see if I can contribute without messing things up to bad.

I got the fearless part... but I'm not the leader just because folks are following me!!

Practice was excruciating last night... still suffering from volume overload this morning. Raging headache as I left, still got a few dregs left over today. I'll give your backing track a listen later today and see if I can get a track put down.

The lyrics you folks posted are currently set to a different chord progression. Will we be converting them to the D,C,G progression I put in place... or will we modify the rhythm to fit the existing chords?

On the chorus I question the "favorite girl" line... my wife only lets me have one... I'm not allowed a favorite.

Hi Dewy Windsong's changed that line, my Wife feels the same way, I can have a favorite guitar but not a favorite girl

Now see, thats very encouraging... it would seem we're on the same page there... as far as taste in women. So the song has like minded parents.

Hi Dewy, That's cool, I'm just throwing lyrics on here and Windsongs catching them and using what he thinks suits so here are a few more lines could be another possible for a chorus.

I hear a song in the wind
The surf on the Sand
I have a beautiful lady
Holding my hand

This seems to be a missed point. I put forth a "riff" based on D, C, G Lyrics were submitted with a different chord progression. Do I assume the fearless leadership role and toss aside someone else's chord progression to get the song completed, or do I ask X4string to redo the backing track to fit a new (the G, C, G, D7) progression?

Its not my song, its a community effort. Its not my job to cast one thing away as inferior. I just play guitar.

Hi Dewy, I posted some lyrics for an opening verse and Windsong reworked them and they came back laid out with the alternative progression (the G, C, G, D7) I mentioned to Windsong about you're query on the chord progression but the other verses have come back with the alternative progression as well so we seem to have a bit of confusion there, have you seen any of the lyrics?

I've seen the ones in this post. They should fit ok over the progression I posted and X4string elaborated on with the backing track, but since they are posted with different chords listed, I am inclined to think we're wanting a different progression.

Just waiting to hear more before I decide how to proceed.

Certainly can't use BOTH!!

Hi Dewy, this is where Windsong is with the lyrics, hope he doesn't mind me posting these as he's still working on them, don't think the order is even set yet, I've put them in that order for now but they still need some fine tuning so this is by no means the finished song

Song on the wind

Verse 1

We're going cruising in Fort Lauderdale
Just got my pay check arrived in the mail
Got my Harley kick'n and we're ready to go
Head'n down to a bar I know

Verse 2

Its good to get out on the open road
Riding through the summer breeze (or cool evening)
The moons out and so bright
And to have my sweet honey with me

Verse 3

She's on my bike and truck'n with me
Head'n toward the Elbo Room I see
The drinks are there and all lined up
For my band my sweetheart and me

Here's Windsongs latest draft for the chorus but again he is still working on this and changing things around

Chorus

I hear a song on the wind
Surf crashing on the sand
I have my sweetheart
Holding my hand

And here's the first Verses with Windsongs progression, I think Windsong is the solution to the progression issue, he has sent me updates on the lyrics every day but I thought he was working with you on the progression so I don't really know which one he would be more comfortable with, collaborations are fun aren't they, hope this is helpful but the progression is the sticking point as you say

.......G...................................C...... ........
We're going cruising in Fort Lauderdale

......G...................................D7...... ....
Just got my pay check, arrived in the mail

......G.................................C......... .
Got my Harley kick'n, and we're ready to go

.....D7.................................G......... ...
Head'n down to a bar I know

.....G..............................C............
She's on my bike and truck'n with me

......G............................D7........
Head'n toward the Elbo Room I see

......G..........................C............
The drinks are there and all lined up

......G..........................D7..........G
For my band, my sweetheart and me

I don't at the moment know how many more verses Windsong wants but it doesnt need too many more in my opinion. at the moment though it 's still a work in progress,

Best Wishes

Chris

I'm enjoying working on this, it's the first time I've tried to write with other members so it's a good experience, just thought I'd mention that

Cheers
