The Songs we used to play

Any suggestions, feedback, whatever is appreciated. Basically a 3-chord song but I haven't perfected my playing enough to record it yet. Maybe in a few weeks, pending changes that might come from your suggestions.

Thanks in advance

The Songs We Used To Play

Verse 1:

We started playing rock in ‘61
Played for more than 20 years, man we had some fun.
Guitar and bass and sax and drums, together all that time
The thought that it might end someday never crossed our minds.

Chorus:

And I still think about the songs we used to play
We played ‘em loud, we drew the crowds, we rocked the nights away.
To me those songs were special, ‘cause we played ‘em our own way
I still think about the songs we used to play.

Verse 2:

Working days and playing nights got harder every year
In ’86 we called it quits, we split up all the gear.
That final night up in the lights, we played our songs once more
Then said good-bye, tried not to cry, and slipped on out the door.

Chorus:

And I still think about the songs we used to play
We played ‘em loud, we drew the crowds, we rocked the nights away.
To me those songs were special, ‘cause we played ‘em our own way
I still think about the songs we used to play.

Verse 3:

I’d love to have the band do one more show
But Ronnie’s dead, Tom’s sick in bed, and Charlie’s mind got slow.
And I can’t play the drums the way I could
It sounds so bad, it’s really sad, I used to be so good.

Chorus:

And I still think about the songs we used to play
We played ‘em loud, we drew the crowds, we rocked the nights away.
To me those songs were special, ‘cause we played ‘em our own way
I still think about the songs we used to play.

Here’s the recording, using a mike we got with our computer, so I sound like a Rudy Vallee impersonator (Or maybe I really sound like that).

Thanks for all the comments and advice. Here are the version 1.2 lyrics and a sample of the chord progression.

Those Songs We Used To Play
By Johnny Doxx

We started playing rock in ‘61
Played for more than 20 years, man we had some fun.
Guitar and bass and sax and drums, together all that time
The thought that it might end someday never crossed our minds.

Oh those songs we used to play, too bad they’ve gone away
I can still remember those songs we used to play.
We played ‘em loud, we drew the crowds, we rocked the nights away
I can still remember those songs we used to play.

Working days and playing nights got harder every year
In ’86 we called it quits, we split up all the gear.
That final night up in the lights, we played our songs once more
Then said good-bye, tried not to cry, and slipped on out the door.

Oh those songs we used to play, too bad they’ve gone away
I can still remember those songs we used to play.
We played ‘em loud, we drew the crowds, we rocked the nights away
I can still remember those songs we used to play.

I’d love to have the band do one more show
But Ronnie’s dead, Tom’s sick in bed, Charlie’s mind got slow.
And I can’t play the drums the way I could
They sound so bad, it’s really sad, I used to be so good.

Oh those songs we used to play, too bad they’ve gone away
I can still remember those songs we used to play.
We played ‘em loud, we drew the crowds, we rocked the nights away
I can still remember those songs we used to play.

I'm having trouble pasting the chords directly above the lyrics, so here's what I tried to play:

Verses: C, F, G, F, C C, F, C, G, C
Chorus, C, C7, F, D, G, C, C7, F, G, C

Sounded like Roy Orbison to me .

That was great!

Hi Johnny, I don't know how I missed this. It's great. Quite a voice you've got there. Great lyrics too.
