It is easier to find the correct scales by ear, just play on the fretboard you will quickly work out what sounds good and what doesn't.
Start at the Am Pentatonic position and move around from there. If it isn't within a few short movements from there I would be surprised.
If you don't know any scales, there is a lot of information on the boards about them I believe.
