Multitrack recording interface?

What is the most basic, budget interface/mixer (firewire or USB), that will let me record 6 maybe 8 instruments and vocals onto their own seperate tracks simultaneously?

I need to multitrack, but I cant run to a Fast track ultra or similar...

Budget suggestions very,very,welcome!

I use the Alesis multi mix firewire, works very well for me. With the 8 I can record 6 instruments so if you want 8 then you would need the 12.

If you're not against buying used, then the Aardvark Q10 or the Presonus Firepod would both fit the bill very nicely.

Aardvark is out of business, so the Q10's are selling for dirt cheap on ebay (I've seen them sell for a little over $200). Presonus has just recently discontinued the Firepod, so the price is a little more than the Q10 (the lowest buy now price is currently $325).

Both units offer 8 inputs, 8 mic preamps, and 10 outputs.

I have the Q10 and it works very well!

Thanks for the replies,fellas.

looks like I got to find around £200 for anything that'll multitrack...

I did come across a great interest free loan scheme from the Arts Council, but they won't cover recording equipment for some reason

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
