hi mj-zak. Take your accustic to a guitar tech for setup. It can be brutal trying to play a poorly setup guitar if thats the case. It will take a couple of months to get past the finger pain so you will just have to touigh it out. It's great that you have people around you to play with. You will learn a lot faster that way.
