Teles are great guitars. You can get a great variety of sounds out of them just from twiddling with the pickup selector, volume and tone knobs. Sure, they're popular country music guitars - but they've been used by a lot of rockers too. Besides Keith Richards, there's Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Andy Summers (the Police), Jeff Beck, Joe Strummer, etc. Don't forget that Jimmy Page played a Telecaster early in his career - much of the early Led Zeppelin albums were done on a Tele, including the iconic solo in "Stairway To Heaven". So yeah, they'll twang, but they'll do a lot more too!
