How to Play Slide Guitar in Standard/Dropped-D DVD by Kirk Lorange
If you really want to spice up your playing, slip a slide over your pinkie and add it to your musical vocabulary. There's no need to re-tune your guitar to an open tuning, just stay in standard or lower that bass string down to D. Kirk shows you how in this 70 minute DVD, talking and playing you through the basics, vibrato, muting, playing single note lines, finding all the chord flavors (they're all there!) and mixing it all into one very neat hybrid style of playing guitar. Ry Cooder's Let's Have A Ball
I really want to learn this song, but for the life of me I can't figure out the tuning he uses! If anyone knows this song and can help me out, that'd be really appreciated.

I'm a huge Cooder fan but I've never heard of this tune ... what album is it from?
He usually plays in open G, but I'm sure he's got others he uses.

Absolutely love Ry. I have that on casette, one of his best. I can never figure out his tunings. I remember a web site that had some of his tunings listed and he had about 20 different tunings.

Thanks Carol,
After seeing the video, I believe he is tuned to open D he has a capo on the second fret which gives him open E for the song. (Just my best guess).
